Disputed Origins

Contrary to many unsourced trees on other sites, Rebecca's last name at birth was NOT Bolling and she did NOT descent from "Pocahontas." For an explanation of how that erroneous information came to be published, see this 2008 Genealogy.com forum message. Please note especially the final sentence.

Biography

It is not known when Rebecca was born or died. Her birth year is estimated based on the estimated birth year of her son.

Her last name at birth is not known. The only record known for her is the Quaker marriage record of her son John Pendergrass which says:

"JOHN PENDERGRAS ye sone of Michale Pendergras and Rebecca: He being of New Kent county and Christian: the daughter of John Pleasants and Dorothy, Jane of the Henrico county did publish their marriage at a meeting of men and women friends at the hose of her father in the county aforesd on the twelfth day of the Eleventh month last past. And coming before the meeting the second time in her fathers howse they did publish their marriage againe on the ninth day of this Instant month and were married in the howse of her father on the Ninth day of the Twelft month in the yeare 1709."[1]

Just Rebecca UNKNOWN married to Michael Pendergrass, mother of John Pendergrass "of New Kent County" a Christian. There was no "Jane" except the bride, no maiden name for Rebecca, no parentage for her and no other children mentioned. One mention in one record on one day. That's all.

This is a completely fictional person. The marriage record of John Pendergrass of New kent County and JANE Pleasants lists his parents as John and Rebecca Pendergrass, giving NO maiden name whatsoever for Rebecca. Pocahontas had no descendant named Rebecca who could have been old enough to have a son marry in 1709. Her descendants are well documented and not a one of them ever married a Pendergrass. This springs from a s silly comment made in the Allen Pendergraft book that "if the legend is true that the Pendergrasses descend from Pocahontas, PERHAPS Rebecca was a Bolling". That's it. Pure unadulterated hogwash. Pocahontas had one son who had one daughter who had one son whose children were born AFTER 1700, so how could there be a daughter with a son marrying in 1709. LOGIC, please?
