9 May 2011 Birth* circa 1645 Anne (-----) was born circa 1645.1 Marriage* circa 1665 She married Andrew Smaw I circa 1665.1 Married Name circa 1665 As of circa 1665,her married name was Smaw. Deposition* 12 November 1677 Anne (-----) gave a deposition on 12 November 1677 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Anne (her mark) Smaw. That being at the house of Mr. John Waterson, I heard Mrs. Harmanson say that if Mr. Waters knew so much as she did he would kick Mrs. Powell out of doors. Mrs. Powell asked for what Mrs. Harmanson answered for having dealings with Mr. Waters servants and Mrs. Powell demanded if Mrs. Harmanson would prove that she replyed she would bring those that should & further saith not.3 Will - Husb's* 9 August 1687 Anne was named in her husband's will on 9 August 1687 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Ann Small in the will of Andrew Small.1

Anecdote* 26 November 1688 26 Nov 1688 in N'hamp County the will of John Margetts was clarified by the deposition of William Jarvis, aged 35, which was taken 2 days before the death of the testator at the house of the widow Small. The deponent said that the dec'd gave his plantation to his daughter Susanna Margetts, with the remainder of the estate to be equally divided by the widow Small and the dec'd's daughter.4 Marriage* circa 1689 She married John Hutchinson circa 1689.5 Married Name circa 1689 As of circa 1689,her married name was Hutchinson. Will - Husb's 25 January 1688/89 Anne was named in her husband's will on 25 January 1688/89 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Ann in the will of John Hutchinson. He also named Andrew Smaw and John Smaw who were evidently her sons.5 Anecdote 1691 In 1691 when the Assembly tried so often to establish towns at strategic points in the colony, it passed an Act "For Northampton County, upon one of the branches of Cherrystones Creek, on the land of Mrs. (Miss) Anna Lee, the daughter of Captain Hancock Lee, and not in the Tenure of the widow of Andrew Small."2 Anecdote 12 May 1707 On 12 May 1707 Ann Smaw gave by deed of gift to her 4 grandchildren Ann, Sarah, John and Andrew Smaw. Ann Smaw, widow, appoint my friend and neighbor Nathaniel Caple to be my true & lawfull attorney to acknowledged in court one deed of gift made by me to my 4 grandchildren for several things therein contained. Witt: James Delacourt, Wm. Hallitt. FROM ORIGINAL RECORD: Ann Smaw of N'hamp Co, widow, for --- and consideration, me ---- to marring (WAS SHE ABOUT TO REMARRY?), but more especially out of the love and affection that I do have --- to my four grandchildren Viz; Ann Smaw, Sarah Smaw, John Smaw and Andrew Smaw, have ----- I do quit grant and confirm freely and willingly unto my grandchildren aforesaid, what shall sett down and mention in this ---- Deed to be for them and their heirs for ever. I give to Ann Smaw after my dec'd my bed and furniture belonging to it on small chop, two pewter dishes, my gold ring, one cow & calf and one yearling heifer. I also give to the said Ann Smaw and her sister Sarah one maire and a yearling ---- with all the increase. I give to Sarah Smaw five ewes and three lambs --- and one silver bookin. I give to Jno Smaw one yearling heifer and one ewe. I give to Andrew Smaw on Cow. This is the true intent and meaning of this my deed of gift. That the calf and sheep herein mentioned and left down with all their ---- shall be delivered to them as the attain successions by - age the bed and furniture only, excepted not to be delivered until after my death that this is my free act and deed. Witt: James Delacourt, Wm Hallitt. Signed: Ann (her O mark) Smaw. This deed was acknowledged in open court by Allen Chaniell ---- lawful attorney of the above said Ann Smaw ---- and ordered to be recorded. Recorded: Test. Robt Howsson, clerk. I, Ann Smaw of N'hamp Co in Ring a widow, do make conditions: Commission and appoint my friend and neighbor Nath. Caple a go the land --- to be my true and lawful and irrevocable attorney for me and in my name place and --- to acknowledge in open court of N'hamp Co one deed of gift made by me to my four grandchildren therein mentioned for the - overall things therein ---- (much is left out here).
