I entered a profile for Sarah Smith based on what I thought was reliable information, but have since concluded that it is highly speculative. Hugh certainly had a wife in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland. Her name may have been Sarah, or it may have been Jane, or it may have been something else![1]
However, Hugh acquired 450 acres on 3 Dec 1772, which means he claimed 7 children (100 acres for himself, plus 50 per child)
Hugh and his 5 children emigrated to South Carolina probably in 1772, and you can read more about that on his Geni.com profile (see link below).
Sarah may have come with them, but I could not find any evidence of that. Only Hugh and children are ever mentioned, never his wife. Others seem to feel his wife came with him, but I can't see why.[3]
