Elizabeth Clarke was born about 1792, in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England, the daughter of John Clarke and his wife Hester Roberson, and was baptised on the 23rd August 1795, in Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire. [1] [2]
After their Banns had been published the required number of times, Elizabeth Clark(e) married Reverend Joseph Foot(e) on the 22nd January 1821, in St. Philip and St. Jacob's Church, Bristol, Gloucester, England. W Day was the officiating Vicar, and their witnesses were Rebecca Robertson, and Robert Robertson, with all parties signing their own names. [3]
Following her husband's death in 1848, and subsequent finalising of his estate, Elizabeth and her children migrated to the Moreton Bay District, Colony of New South Wales (from 1859 Queensland, and from 1901 Australia) aboard the Emigrant, arriving in Brisbane on 8th August 1850. They survived the typhus epidemic aboard the ship during the voyage. Elizabeth was listed as a housekeeper. [4]
Aged about sixty years, Elizabeth passed away on 24th May 1852 in Moreton Bay District [5] and her remains interred in Paddington Cemetery. Her remains were re-interred in the Brisbane General Cemetery, Toowong, upon its opening. [6] She was survived by at least five of her six children.
