Ann (Unknown) Wright migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm
Disputed Origins
Ann's surname was not Beaupre.
Torrey's New England marriages; "WRIGHT, Nicholas (1609-1682) & Ann [BEAUPRE]; by 1630; ... {NYGBR 2:12, 3:44, Reg. 44:215, 55:381; Austin: GDRI 51; Wright (1923) 133; Frost 19; Winthrop-Babcock 71; Carpenter (1901) 52; MD 14:168; Shotwell 235, 239, 241; Cocks (ed 2) 292, 364; Townsend #5 59-61; Cole (1887) 92}"
[BEAUPRE] in the brackets indicates there was a source but no confirming record.
A search of each of Torrey's sources showed that the only source refering to Nicholas' wife as Beaupre was The Frost Genealogy p. 20
"Nicholas was the son of John, who married Ann, daughter of Edmund Beaupre, and heir to Beaupre Hall in Norfolk, England. He was born 1609 ..."
Where did that come from? NYGBR 3:44 "The Wright Family of Oyster Bay, L.I. by John J Latting."
"John Wright ... He had two sons, Edmund, his heir, and Nicholas. They married sisters, daughters and co-heirs of Edmund Beaupre of Beaupre Hall in Norfolk. ... Nicholas by his wife, Anne Beaupre, was the father of five children, from one of whom, there is reason to believe, came the immigrant brothers..."
It is obvious this was misunderstood by the author of the Frost Genealogy, resulting in Nicholas the immigrant being married to Ann Beaupre instead of Nicholas some possible ancestor.
A look at p. 34 Visitations of Norfolk confirms that an earlier Nicholas Wright married not only Ann Beaupre but also her sister Catherine.[1]
Biography
The sources listed here have all been checked. None of the says that Nicholas married Ann Beaupre.

I beIieve this could be the marriage record that shows what Ann's maiden name is: Norfolk Record Office; Norwich, Norfolk, England; Norfolk Church of England Registers; Reference: PD 230/1,
Name Nicolas Wright
Gender Male
Event Type Marriage
Marriage Date 1 May 1632
Marriage Place North Barningham, Norfolk, England
Spouse Anne Filyan
Of. Course it's a handwritten document and spelling might be open to interpretation but the date and place is appropriate.
Thank you for flagging this. It is definitely a clue that warrants further investigation but Wright is a very common name so I think we would need more to conclude that this is the same couple. The name of the spouse is indexed in one database record by Ancestry.com as "Anne," but in others it is indexed as "Agnes" and it looks like "Agnes" to me in the image.
For others, the record is available from FamilySearch in "Parish registers for Barningham-Norwood," FHL 1,526,138, DGS 4,033,320, image 318.
Note that Agnes, Annis, Anna, and Ann (and other variants) can be interchangeable in old English and Scottish records. Hannah also falls into this somewhat murky category of synonyms, although its origin evidently lies in Hebrew, while Agnes arises from Greek.
That's interesting. I've noticed some names that appear interchangeable (though right now, for some reason I can't pull any of those out of my memory for the life of me) but I didn't know Agnes and Ann(etc) were often interchangeable. I'll remember that. It sounds like that makes this marriage record even more likely to belong this Ann.
I did a little more digging and found a christening document for a Anne Fillyan that occurred 22 Sep 1605 at St Mary, Hitchin, Hertford, England. My geography of England is limited to being able to find the major cities on a map (IOW, I don't know how far apart different counties are, my bad) so this item might be impossible to be the same person, but this name is certainly uncommon and while earlier than the current estimated birth, it COULD be her. This is from "England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975". Her father is listed as John.
UNKNOWN-28284 and Beaupre-623 appear to represent the same person because: Ann's last name is Beaupre according to sources added to -28284. Ann was likely born by 1610 based on having been married by 1630 per Torrey. Same spouse. Same approx death year (both profiles have "about"). Please merge.
