Biography

Mary Snow, daughter of Joseph Snow and his wife, Mary (Unknown) Snow, was born on 17 October 1674 in Eastham, Barnstable county, or in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, New England. Plymouth Colony joined Massachusetts Bay in 1691/92. [1]

Mary Snow married Nathaniel Mayo (b. 2 Apr1667) in Eastham, Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, in about 1695 at Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony. No official marriage record has survived.

Mary & Nathaniel Mayo had 3 children: [2]

  1. Rebecca (Mayo) Hamilton, b. Apr 1697 in Eastham, Barnstable, Plymouth Colony;
  2. William Mayo, b. Aug 1699 in Eastham, Barnstable, Mass. Bay;
  3. Robert Mayo, b. June 1701 in Eastham, Barnstable, Mass. Bay.

Rebecca Mayo's birth record on 17 April 1697, gives just "Mary" as her mother' name, without any maiden name. Rebecca Mayo later was married on 3 May 1716 to Thomas Hamilton. The same is true for her 2 brothers: William Mayo, born August 1699, and Robert Mayo, born June 1701; neither birth record mentions the maiden name of their mother "Mary". However, Joseph Snow's 1723 Will names "Rebecca Hamilton," as his grand-daughter. Given who was then alive at that time & place, she could only have been Rebecca (Mayo) Hamilton. This primary document establishes that Nathaniel Mayo's 1st wife was Mary Snow, daughter of Joseph Snow. This filiation has been accepted by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants who acknowledge Mary (Snow) Mayo's line as bona-fide Mayflower descendants because Mary (Snow) Mayo was a direct descendant of Constance (Hopkins) Snow, a 1620 Mayflower passenger.

Nathaniel Mayo remarried "Mary Brown," on 28 October 1703; therefore Mary (Snow) Mayo passed away between June 1701 and October 1703.
