Biography

Lucretia (maiden name unknown)[1] was married to John Shearin[2][3][4][5]

On 19 Jan 1735 John and Lusa Shearing witnessed, by their marks, the will of Thomas Huckiby of Brunkswick County, Virginia.[4][6]

On 01 Jun 1743 John Shearing, planter of Brunswick County, Virginia sold to Jehu Peeples of Brunswick County, for 5 pounds sterling, 118 acres of land, being the lower part of 236 acres that was patented to John Shearing in 1734. The 118 acres is bounded by Joseph Shearing on t he north side. Signed by John and Luersha Shearing by their marks and witnessed by William Sisson, Stephen Sisson, and Thomas Denton.[3][7]

On 22 Sep 1760 John Shearing, of the County of Brunswick, and Lucretia his wife for 150 pounds current money of Virginia sale to Wood Tucker of Dinwiddie County a tract of land containing 357 acres situated in Brunswick County on both sides of the Three Creeks, part of which is a 240 acre tract on East side of the three creeks, the 240 acres on the east side of the three creeks formerly belonging to Joseph Shearing, and the other 117 acres being part of the 237 acres by patents to the said John Shearing, bearing a date of January 1734.[2]

Lucretia died sometime before 1794 as she is not named in her husband's will.[8]

She is buried in the old Shearin Plantation Cemetery, Warren County, North Carolina.[5] There is a tombstone photo added from FindAGrave that shows burial in Halifax County, North Carolina. These cannot both be correct. The tombstone also has the death year for her husband John as 1794, however that is the year his will was written and as said will was probated in November of the following year (nearly the end of the year), his death would have occurred in 1795 not 1794.[9][10][11][12]
