Biography

Volga German
Catharina (Unknown) Zulauf was a Volga German.
Catharina (Unknown) Zulauf has German Roots.

Johann Zulauf was born about 1730, probably in the Darmstadt area of what is now Germany. He married Catharina and the couple had five children. In 1766 they are documented as departing Germany and immigrating to Russia.

Kulberg Reports [1]

Johann Zulauf, Lutheran, smith from Darmstadt, document 3633, wife: Catharina
Child #1 Johann Zulauf, age 15
Child #2 Georg Zulauf, age 13
Child #3 Heinrich Zulauf, age 11
Child #4 Anna Zulauf, age 18
Child #5 Maria Zulauf, age 7

There are no records that confirm whether the family survived the journey or the name of the village where they lived. I do not have a copy of Einwanderung in das Wolgagebiet 1764-1767, Band 2, to confirm if she and her family settled in one of those villages, but I've checked all the other volumes and there are no Zulaufs listed in them. I also checked Brent Mai's 1798 Census of the German Colonies along the Volga, Volumes 1 & 2. The only Zulauf's listed are those in Grimm, who are documented as the children of theother Johann Heinrich Zulauf, and one daughter, Anna Elisabeth, who moved to Frank when she married Johannes Wiedemann. [2] [3] This Anna Elisabeth does not match the Anna Zulauf who was a daughter of the Catharina Zulauf of this profile. The Anna Zulauf listed above, from immigration records, was born in 1749.
