Biography

Joane died in May 1615 in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England and was buried in the parish churchyard. [1]

(1615) 15 of ye same (May) Joane Skotte an old woman ye wife of Edmund Skott

Disputed Parentage

Joan's maiden name is unknown. What is known about her and her husband Edmund Scott can be found at the Miner Descent website

Many claim that Joan, wife of Edmund Scott, was the daughter of William Howard, first Baron Howard but there's no proof of her parentage - her LNAB should be UNKNOWN.

  • BTW: The derivation of the family name from Sir William Balliol, surnamed Le Scot, down six decends to John Scot, whose son was William Scot of Scot's Hall is disputed. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume 31 of 1877, pp. 345-346[2]

Scott-7289 and Unknown-492310 appear to represent the same person because: Joan Scott-7289 is an unsourced profile married to Edmund Scott-456. Scott is her married name, not her LNAB. Her LNAB is unknown.

Joan Unknown-492310 is duplicate wife of Edmund Scott-456. She has a sourced death date and place. There has been no sourced evidence for the LNAB for the wife of Edmund Scott, hence her LNAB should be Unknown post-merge.

There has been discussion about removing the LNAB of Howard since 2014. There has been no evidence offered to show that the LNAB was Howard or any other surname. I am changing the LNAB to Unknown.
