Biography
This profile represents the woman who was supposedly first wife of William A Mansell of Marion Co., Alabama, and mother of at least one of his children (Hannah Mansell Kimmery).
Her first name is believed to be Elender; her maiden name is not yet confirmed although some believe it was Egar or Eggars; some include a middle name Jane; no one has yet provided a reliable source for either Egar, Eggars or Jane.
"I believe she may be from the Landrine Eggers family or earlier. They were in Ashe Co. NC which adjoins Stokes, and Eggers were also in Chester Co., SC when the Mansells were in Fairfield Co., SC. Chester Co. SC adjoins Fairfield."[1]
Some family members believe she was Native American or of Native American descent. We find no evidence to support this claim.
The only contemporaneous documentation of her name is the 1860 United States Federal Census where she is enumerated as "Elender Mancil" in the home of Solomon and Hannah Kimery. [2] This enumeration has led some to believe that she was mother of Hannah.
This claim is supported by a 1970 interview and memory of a family bible which named her:
Gillie Clementine Donaldson McGuyer (1884-1974) was daughter of Amanda Kimery Donaldson, and granddaughter of Hannah Mansell Kimery. This information was recorded in a family Bible belonging to Gillie (seen by Janet Fowler in 1970), which was lost after Gillie's death. In a 1970 conversation with Janet Fowler, Gillie Donaldson remembered her mother, but was only 2 yrs old when Hannah Mansell and Solomon Kimery were living. "I [Janet Fowler] remember seeing the name, or one similar, Elender in this Bible. It has been over 50 yrs since I have seen the Bible, so memory may not be serving me well. I do not remember seeing the name Morning Dove White. There was never a mention of Cherokee heritage. Not having the Bible makes this account folklore as I [Janet Fowler?] can only tell what I remember without documentation."[3]
Elender was born about 1790; she died after 1860.[2]

It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elender:
I am confused why Elender is listed as Native American. We know nothing about her so how can she be listed as such?
I believe that leaving the possible last name Egar and her status as NA will be later misleading to other Genealogist, especially beginners.
This causes that slippery slope we all hate so much.
We place "Egar" in Other Last Names to help people who believe she was named that find her and also to prevent duplicates. If we exclude it, chances increase that someone will create a duplicate profile for her.
Thank you. Her daughter Hannah Kimery and children and grandchildren were in Tippah County, MS by 1870. The youngest great-grandchild was born in Mississippi in 1861 (according to the 1870 census). The migration from Marion Co. AL to Tippah County probably took place after Elinder's death, but it is possible her death occurred in Mississippi. I agree with you, though... it is most likely in Marion Co.
I am not sure who found the middle name Jane or the last name Egar. No one can produce any sources to back this up. I have searched myself blind to find anything that would support either name.
Wouldn't it just be better to leave her as Elender "unknown" until or if a source can be found? Supposed names can lead others down a long road of wrong info and with an end result of nothing.
Egar-3 and Unknown-499972 appear to represent the same person because: Let's try this again. Happy to merge her into Unknown since there is no documentation of her maiden name.
Janet, back in 2019, you wrote "She [Elender] married William Mansell ..." From other comments you've made, you may know more than any of us about the records supporting this marriage. The only place I've found her so far is that 1860 census. What do you have the supports her being wife of William Mansell? Many thanks.

She married William Mansell and her last name is spelled Mancil in a census. I am very uncertain where the last name Egar came from as well.
