Biography

Childhood

Christine was born in Norway in 1848.[1]

Emigration, Marriage, Children

Christine emigrated to the United States, where she married Torger Olson and, by him, had eight children, though only seven are known.[2] The seven who are known, all born in Sumner Township, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, were: Anna, born in about 1872,[3] Albert, born 1 Jan 1874,[4] Carl, born 19 Sep 1875,[5] Julia, born 6 Mar 1880,[6] Betty, born 10 Aug 1881,[7] Leah, born 7 Jan 1884,[8] and Earl, born in about 1888 and who died in 1889.[9] As for unknown eighth child, all that's known is that the child died before 1894, as the child was not identified in that year in the will of Christine's husband, Torger.

In 1875, Torger and Christina resided in Sumner Township with their children, Anna and Albert.[10] Torger and Christina continued to live in Sumner Township as of 8 Jun 1880, farming with their children, Anna, Albert, Carl and newborn Julia, and employing two servants.[11] Later in 1880, Torger was quitclaimed what was (or would eventually be) the easterly part of Torger and Christine’s two 160-acre parcels in Sumner,[12] the acquisition and disposition of which are explored in much greater detail on a separate Wikitree page, here.

The Olson farm by about about 1880 date was roughly 320 acres, as superimposed by the profile manager over this 2014 satellite image, with Osseo on the right.

Loss of Husband, Daughter

Christine's husband, Torger, became gravely ill by 1890. He and Christine engaged in estate planning in anticipation he might soon die. She conveyed to him, 28 Jul 1890, her interest in the westerly of their two 160-acre parcels in Sumner.[13] Before witnesses Ira B. Bradford of Augusta, Wisconsin, and E. A. Olson and Arne Anderson of Osseo, Torger simultaneously executed his will, bequeathing everything to Christine, for her life, and, thereafter, to their six children: Anna, Alfred, Carl, Julia, Betty (Bergetta) and Leah (Ollie).[14] Less than a month after executing his will, Torger died at their home in Sumner Township, 16 Aug 1890, at about age 56.<[15] He's buried in a Olson family plot, with a common stone, in Osseo Cemetery, in Osseo, Wisconsin,[15] where she, too, and other family members, are buried. In 1894, four years after Torger passed, Christine lost her daughter, Anna, and grandson (by Anna), Arnold, and they were likewise buried in the family plot in Osseo.[3]

Later Years

In 1900, 51 yewar-old Christine lived on her mortgage-free farm, in Osseo, with her children, Albert and Julia, and a servant.[16] Next door lived "Mat F. Olson," Norway-born Jan 1849 and who imigrated in 1888, and his family, but it's yet unclear whether he was related to Torger. Christine's son, Carl, a hardware merchant, lived in Osseo with Christine's daughters, Beatrice and Leah.[17]

In 1910, she lived on a mortgaged farm in Sumner Township with her children, Albert and Leah.[19] Christine's son, Carl, remained in Osseo in 1910, with his wife and son.[20]

In 1920, Christine continued to reside on her mortgaged farm in Osseo with her children, Albert and Betty.[23] In 1920, Christine's 44 year-old son, Carl, was working as a "road contractor" in 1920, and he and his wife continued residing in their home there with their children, Jerry and Enie.[24]

Death

She died in Trempealeau County, ostensibly 26 Apr 1926, and she's buried in an Olson family plot, with a common stone, in Osseo Cemetery, in Osseo,[25] where her husband, Torger, and sons Albert and Carl are also buried.[5]
