Birth
Minnie was born in 1862 somewhere in Wisconsin.
Name
Her Hocą̄k name is given as Mon Son See Win Kah (1919 census), which may be for Mą̄́są̄́sīwįga, which may be analyzed as, mą̄́są̄́, "steel" (< mą̄́s, "metal", and są̄́, "white, pale"); sī, "foot"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This would mean, "Steel Foot Woman". However, the word for steel is mą̄́ska, where ska and są̄́ are essentially synonyms. Otherwise, Mą̄́są̄́sīwįga would mean simply, "White-Earth Foot", which is obscure.
