Biography

Alice was possibly Alice Smith as she named a "cozen" Lovell Smith in her will.

Alice married Richard Siddowne and they had the following children in Hillmorton, Warwickshire:

  • Agnes Siddowne (called Anna in her father's probate) was baptised on 16 February 1621 N. S. in Hillmorton.[1]
  • Henry Siddowne was baptised on 28 September 1622 in Hillmorton, to Richard.[2] Henry took over his father's inn and married Ann Harding.
  • Alice Siddowne was baptised on 29 February 1624 N. S. in Hillmorton.[3] Alice married John Pryer in 1645 N. S. in Hillmorton.[4]
  • Eliza Siddowne was baptised on 19 March 1626 N. S. in Hillmorton.[5]
  • Richard Siddowne was baptised on 28 Sep 1628 in Hillmorton to Richard and Alice.[6] According to his mother's will, Richard moved to London.
  • Dorothy Siddowne was baptised on 31 October 1630 in Hillmorton to Richard and Alice.[7]
  • Sarah Siddowne was baptised on 22 February 1634 in Hillmorton, to Richard and Alice.[8]

Alice's husband passed away in 1636. Although he had previously been a blacksmith, he was described as an innkeeper in his probate documents.[9]

Alice was mentioned in the 1662 hearth tax records in Hillmorton as having five hearths.[10] This was joint highest in the village, suggesting that she continued running the inn after the decease of her husband in 1636.

Alice Siddowne was buried on 26 August 1667 in Hillmorton.[11]
