Kate Jarvis was born in 1867 in Plymouth, Devon, England to Stephen Nathaniel Jarvis and Hannah Maria Smith (Horn) Jarvis. Her birth was registered in Plymouth in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Horn.[1]
In 1871 Kate Jarvis (age 3) lived in Tavistock, Devon with her mother Hannah (28) and two sisters: Sarah Ann (6) and Eliza (0).[2] Kate's father Stephen N Jarvis (30) was in Chatham, Kent.
Kate's mother passed away in 1874. Her father remarried in 1880, to Dorothy Trute.
In 1881 Kate Jarvis (age 13, Scholar) lived at St Johns Rd in Faversham, Kent with her father Stephen Nathaniel (40, Railway Ticket Examiner), stepmother Dorothy (39), two sisters: Sarah Ann (16, Milliner) and Eliza (11, Scholar), grandfather George Jarvis (75, Retired Bootmaker), and aunt Sarah Ann Trute [nee Jarvis] (26, Sailmakers Wife).[3]
Kate Jarvis (age 25, daughter of Stephen Nathaniel Jarvis) and John Monkhouse (age 30, son of John Monkhouse) were married on 26 Jul 1892 at St Mary of Charity in Faversham.[4] The marriage was registered in Faversham in the third quarter of the year.[5]
In 1901 Kate Monkhouse (age 33) lived at Bovill Road in Lewisham, London with her husband John (38, Jelly Manufacturer), son Wilfred A (7), and daughter Muriel A E (3).[6]
In 1911 Kate Monkhouse (age 43) lived at 6 Mayour Rd in Forest Hill, London with her husband John (48, Manufacturer Custard Powder) and four children: Wilfred Adrian (17, Student), Muriel Anne Elizabeth (13, Student), Frederick John (5), and Lydia Irene Jervas (1), as well as two servants: Emily Whitmore (24, Nurse Domestic Servant) and Laura Susan Lizzie Daisy Sapsford (31, Cook General Domestic Servant) - Kate & John had been married 18 years, and 4 children had been born in the marriage (all still living).[7]
Kate Monkhouse passed away on 5 Jan 1935, aged 67 years. Her death was registered in Lewisham in the first quarter of the year.[8] She was buried in Lambeth, Surrey on 9 Jan 1935.[9]
Probate of her estate was granted on 13 Feb 1935:[10]
"MONKHOUSE Kate of Terrington 6 Mayow-road Forest Hill Kent (wife of John Monkhouse) died 5 January 1935 Probate London 13 February to the said John Monkhouse companies director and Wilfred Adrian Monkhouse and Stanley Howard Bersey chartered accountants. Effects £8259 19s. 5d."[11]
