Biography
Isabell's year of birth of 1540 is nothing more than a placeholder date. All we know of her is that she was Edmund's wife at the time of his death in Apr 1592 when she was named his administrator,[1] she was not his first wife, and she was still alive at the time of the Clifton Deed of 26 Jun 1601 when her dower rights were given up for the sale of the properties,[2] and she was deceased before the Clifton Deed of 10 Dec 1607 when her dower rights were no longer addressed.[3]
On 17 Oct 1574 an Isabella Wilson is recorded as marrying an Edmund Blide at the parish church of St Mary's in Plumtree.[4][5] This is significant because Edmund Blood was married to an Isabell at the time of his death, and he was also associated with Plumtree parish (see explanations of both further on). At the same time, there is no other record of a Blide or Blyde family in Plumtree parish or anywhere else in Nottinghamshire until well into the 18th century, and then in Nottingham and not Plumtree. By contrast the Blood family of Plumtree, the oldest Bloods recorded in Nottinghamshire, were already established in the parish by the mid-1500s if not earlier. The Nottinghamshire Archives have confirmed that the Plumtree parish records from which these FindMyPast entries are derived are not the original records but a copy made in the 17th century; the original 16th century marriage records no longer exist. This is important because it was common for later copyists to transcribe Bloude/Blude as practically any other name they could think of, meaning it's possible, even probable, that Blide is a mistake for Blude -- a spelling for Blood attested in Plumtree parish records from almost exactly the same time as this entry.
As previously noted, Isabell must have died sometime prior to the Clifton Deed of 10 Dec 1607 when her dower rights are no longer addressed.
