Thomas Henry Upfill was born on 16th July 1897 in Hampstead[1]
Baptism: 16 Aug 1897. Hampstead St Paul, England.
In 1901, he is at home with his family who were living in Blandford Forum, Dorset.[2]
By 1911, the family have moved to Kensington. [3]
He went to Repton College, Derbyshire. The school still awards a Mathematics prize in his memory.[1]
Thomas Upfill served first in the Royal Field Artillery and then in the newly formed Royal Air Force, and was shot down over France in October 1918. He received the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.[1]
He was serving in 59th Squadron, Royal Air Force, when he was shot down & killed on 18th October 1918 in France.[4]( Burial: Caudry British Cemetery Caudry Departement du Nord Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Plot: IV. F. 1.)
He is commemorated on a memorial in St Stephen's Church, Gloucester Road, London.[5]
