Biography

The News-Herald, April 7, 1886, (Hillsboro, Ohio)

RAINSBORO Daniel Adams, of Sabina, attended the funeral of Wm. Upp, at this place last Thursday.

William Upp died after an affliction of ten days, with pleurisy, at his home 2-1/2 miles east of town, Tuesday, March 30th, in the sixty-third year of his age.  He was twice married. The first union was with Miss Sarah S. Miller, June 25, 1845. To them were born two children, Charles, who now resides at Bainbridge, and Eliza, who died at the age of 6 years. Mrs. Upp died August 19th, 1853. Mr. Upp's second marriage was with Miss Sarah J. Adair, May 24, 1855, who still survives to mourn his loss.

James, the only child of the second union, though married, still remains under the parental roof.

But few men possessed, in so eminent a degree, the elements that constitutes real manhood, as did William Upp.

For more than 40 years he was a worthy member of the M.E. Church and most of that time an efficient class-leader. He was honorable and prosperous in business, a model farmer, an obliging neighbor, a kind father,an affectionate and agreeable companion and a devout christian.

Impressive funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, on Thursday, in charge of his pastor, Rev. C. J. Wells. The pulpit and the seat he usually occupied were draped in mourning. The business houses were closed and his many admiring friends came with sad hearts to pay a tribute of respect to his memory, filling the large church to its utmost capacity.

The remains were laid to rest in the Hulitt cemetery.
