The first husband of "Widow Elizabeth Upson" of Sudbury and father of Hannah Upson who married Edward wright is unknown. Exhaustive research into Thomas Upson of Connecticut and Stephen Upson who came in 1635 on the "Increase" and arrived in Boston late July 1635 has yielded no connection to this family. While Banks, Pope and Savage have searched for a connection in Boston records in fact no record of Stephen Upson of Boston has been found after his arrival. While we can't rule out that Stephen could have been a member of this family other than a shared surname there is no reason to suspect that he was.[1]

So we do know that his name was Stephen. And Elizabeth is named his wife by 1638. Child Hannah b. 1638, so would be his. Under "comments" Anderson adds that no records for Stephen have been found in NE, and goes on to say "several of the passengers on the Increase settled first at Watertown, which was the first residence of many of the settlers of Sudbury, which provides some support for the identification of this passenger as the husband of Elizabeth (_____) Upson.
