Biography

Died at the residence of her son-in-law, T.B. Coburn BURPEE, Esq., Philadelphia, U.S., April 26th, Mary S. BARKER relict of Enoch BARKER, Esq., of Sheffield (Sunbury Co.) N.B. Her remains were brought to Sheffield, arriving by steamer, Tuesday afternoon, May 2, after being accompanied by her son, Dr. Charles H. BARKER of New York, and were buried in the old burying ground adjoining the Congregational Church. Mrs. Barker joined the Congregational Church here 70 years ago and has been a continuous member up until the time of her death. Service was held in the church by the pastor, Rev. James Austen, assisted by Rev. A.B. McCully, Wesleyan Minister. She has resided with her daughter in Philadelphia the last 13 years. Whitehead BARKER of Sheffield, Fred E. BARKER of St. John and Dr. Charles H. BARKER of Jamaica, Long Island, New York, all of her sons living, were present. She was the last of an old generation in this place and of the members of the Congregational Church whose membership dates back to the pastorate of Rev. Archibald McCullum.^[1]
