OBITUARY (1949, March 16). Windsor and Richmond Gazette (NSW : 1888 - 1961), p. 5. Retrieved March 6, 2021, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article85660177 OBITUARY FREDERICK UPTON Concerning the sudden passing at his home on Friday last of Mr. Frederick George Upton, of Kurrajong, news of which came as a sad shock to his army of district friends, our Kurrajong correspondent writes: — Quite a gloom was cast over Kurrajong and surrounding district when it became known that Mr. Frederick Upton had suddenly passed away at his home, 'Kurra-view,' on Grose Vale-road. Mr. Upton, who was only 58 years of age, had not been well for a considerable time, but on Friday afternoon seemed normal and walked about a quarter of a mile to his son's home. Later his son drove him home by car and did not notice anything amiss, but on entering his home the deceased collapsed without warning and passed peacefully away within a few minutes. The shock to his wife can well be imagined, as she was alone at the time. Deceased, who was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Upton, of Grose Vale, was a good friend and neighbour, always ready and willing to assist those in distress. He was a resident of Kurrajong all his life, and was one of the best known and most respected residents of that centre. He married Miss Helen ('Nellie') Larkin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Larkin, of Stanmore, and they had a family of six children, Ellen (Mrs Peg Coady, Grose Vale-road), Kathleen (Mrs. Dunston, Windsor), Bernard and Desmond (Kurrajong), Eileen (Mrs Kinton, Melbourne) and Phillip (Sydney). The late Mr. Upton with his sons conducted a sawmilling business, and with hard work and success in business he and his sons and daughter had erected very nice homes, which will stand as a monument to their good father. The interment took place after prayers at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Kurrajong, on Sunday, when a large and representative gathering and beautiful floral tributes testified to the love and esteem in which deceased was held. The Rev. Fr. Parker (Manly) officiated at the graveside. I am sure the whole district joins with me in offering condolences to the bereaved widow and family in their sad loss.
