Biography
"James Upton, was descended from, a gentle English family, which may be traced back nearly to the Conquest, through that John Upton who was at Salem, Mass., about 1650. His father being wealthy, William W. Upton received a thorough English education, with a fair knowledge of Greek, Latin, and French ; the latter tongues he always read fluently."[1]
