Robert was born in 1823. He was the son of John Urie and Agnes MacFarlane.
He married Jenet / Janet Gardner on June 2, 1848 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire.[1]He passed away in 1895 in Greenock, Renfrewshire.
"Death of Mr. Urie of Greenock - By the death of Mr. Robert Urie, photographer on Sunday afternoon, Greenock loses another well-known citizen. Born at Paisley in 1821, the deceased gentleman early in life went to America but returned to Scotland, settling down as a photographer first at Rothesay, and afterwards in Greenock, in the year 1854.
He was elected on two occasions to serve on the Committee of Management of Greenock Parochial Board, and was a director of the old Highlanders' Academy.
But Mr. Urie was best known in connection with Greenock St. John's Lodge, No. 175, to which he was initiated on 23rd May 1856, and elected R. W. M. in 1865.
Mr. Urie is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters."[2]
