In 1567, Thomas Urquhart of Craighouse acted as a witness for a marriage contract (NAS GD176/83).[1]
Thomas died in March 1571, and his ‘...testament, testamentar and inventary of the guidis geir soumis of mony and dettis...’ dated June 1573 was valued at £490 9s. 8d. and his property included Craighouse, lands at Culboll and Kilquhoan (NAS CC8/8/2). Half of Craighouse and half of all the furnishings and gear in the house was to be left to his wife, Janet Monro. His half of all his oxen, cows, barley and oats belonging to his half of the house was to be divided equally between Alexander Dougall, his sister’s son, and Christian Urquhart daughter (NAS CC8/8/2). (Appendix D).[1]
This page refers to Thomas Urquhart of Craighouse's death and will. It also seems to refer to Thomas Urquhart, grandfather (of the above), and as the elder Thomas was married to Helen Abernathy and died in 1557, there has been a slight mix-up, as he didn't marry Janet Munro. The above Thomas was the brother of Walter Urquhart who married Elizabeth MacKenzie of Kintail.
