Arthur was a well known naturalist and a member of the New Zealand Institute from1877 until his death. He presented many papers there, particularly on spiders but also on worms, trees, and marine species. He died in1916 leaving an estate of 2647 pounds. He was interred in St Stephen's Churchyard Parnell, Auckland (There are various different spellings of his middle name)
