Notes

It is unlikely that the birth listed below is the correct entry as all census records show him being born in Sarclet/Wick in Caithness. His father William Urquhart was a soldier who was injured in the Napoleonic wars - his mother Ann Easto/Easton. His mother shows in the 1861 census as born in Armagh, Ireland. Although unable to trace a birth record for John, the record for his older sister is available (Anne Urquhart born 24 Jan 1822, Wick Caithness) His other sister Johanna Scobie Urquhart is also available born 20 Nov 1818. Its likely given the time line an locations that the family were cleared from Assynt to Sarclet while their father was away fighting in the Napoleonic wars.
