What we know : Name William Urguhart Regiment or Unit Name 42nd Regiment of Foot 2nd Battalion He joined ther army at age 18 as an Ensign on the 20th Feb 1812. Although enlisted for to the First Battalion, he also served with the 2nd Battalion. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on the 5th Jan 1814. Seriously wounded in the battle of Toulouse

He left the military (due to wounds) near the end of 1814 His pension examination date is 18 Mar 1818 which presumably is about the time of formal discharge from army.

Daughter JOHANNA SCOBIE baptized 20 Nov 1818 in Unapool, lawful daughter to William urquhart & Anne Isto Pensioner in Unapool

Daughter Anne born Jan 24th1822, baptized 1st of Feb recorded as a Pensioner (Retired Soldier) in Thrumster (settlement near Wick) by his wife Anne Esto, witness Steven Miller in Thrumster and David Roberson looper in Sarclet.

John Urquhart son was born about 1824 in Sarclet according to several Census, this is consistent with Anne's birth location.

His wife Anne is with John and family on the 1861 Census - William is presumably dead by then, another daughter Jessie born about 1831 shows in the Census. There is doubt over where William was born, census record says Assynt, Wick area may also be possible
