George Urquhart was born in Scotland.

George was the son of John Urquhart & Helen Jamieson. He was noted to be their son on the 1851 and 1861 census. In 1851, he was 13 years old and a scholar living in Kilmorack, Inverness, Scotland, United Kingdom[1].

  • In 1861, George had moved to Alvie and was a shepherd. He was killed by an accidental gunshot wound[2]

Research Notes

I have not been able to find a birth record for George but several of John and Helen's children cannot be found and are only noted on census records. However, there is a possibility for the death of a George Urquhart which was registered twice in two different parishes. Unfortunately the certificates give next to no information apart from his age of 29 years (which is correct based on his birthdate) and that he died from an accidental gunshot to the chest on the hill of Ethart and examined by Dr William Marshall[3] [4]. My question was, did his family ever know? or would they have just thought he'd disappeared?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
