Howard S. Utech, 85 of Cantonment Florida -formerly of Joplin Missouri, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 7:52PM at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1933 in New Holland IL. to the late Louis and Alma (Hendrickson) Utech. Howard served in the US Navy a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving aboard the USS Comstock LSD 19 for 2 years, then transferring to Naval Beach Group I Boat Unit I. He was a Petty Officer Engineman/Diesel 2nd Class. Howard was self-employed most of his years as a Diesel Fuel Injection Specialist, with businesses in Compton, Cerritos and Porterville CA. While in California he obtained his private pilots license as he enjoyed flying for recreation and for business. He moved his family from California to Joplin Mo. in 1968 purchasing Joplin Diesel Injection, later opening 3 other fuel injection businesses in Springfield Mo, Springdale Arkansas, and Lincoln Illinois. In 1975 he was very active in assisting and working with many Vietnamese families that were being sponsored by many churches in Joplin, helping to resettle them in the Joplin area. In 1977 he retired from the Diesel business and was asked by the Ozark Christian College for he and his wife to be dorm parents of the new Boatman Hall. They served for 1 semester. He later worked for Oak Hill/Freeman Hospital as an in-house Carpenter/Maintenance man, later transferring to Courier. His hobbies were building houses, commercial buildings, designing and building furniture with his wife. He loved helping people and teaching anyone whatever trade he was working on at the time. He was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church and served as an Elder, he served his church in any way that he could. He was a past member of the Sunrise Optimist Club. Preceded in death by two Sisters, Deloris Janson and Eleanor McCurry of IL. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Riley Utech. They were married Dec. 25, 1953 celebrating 64 years together. They have two daughters, Dawn Rene, Theresa Lanning (Kristopher), 3 Grandchildren Erin Poor (Andrew), Amanda Oblinger, Luke Lanning and 3 Great Grandchildren Isis Dawn, Tripp Baker, Jayden Oblinger, 1 Sister Irma Segler of IL. and many Nieces and Nephews. Dear friends in his Christian walk include Wm D. Brill, Dr. Gary Hamlin, Tommy Eaves, Erv Ducommun, the late Dr. Paul Saneman, Buddy Francis and Clyde Beadle (Business Partner). There were many others who enriched his life. Services are being held Wednesday, July 25th 2018, 10:30 AM at the Pensacola Memorial Gardens, Pensacola, FL. There will be no public visitation. Interment will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Published on July 22, 2018
