DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

The following excerpt from Sources is correct...

Thomas Utter (1676-1726), m. Mercy Cottrell, whose mother was Bethia Wilcox

...but the wrong Cottrell is connected as the wife of Thomas Utter. Further...

Abstracts of South Kingstown Wills, in Alden G. Beaman. Rhode Island Genealogical Register. (The Rhode Island Genealogical Research Institute), 322, April 1982:

Gershom Cottrell late of Kingstown deceased by 17 Dec 1711. Widow Bethiah, sons Stephen & Gershom who was deceased by 3 Aug 1719; daughters: an unnamed daughter [Marcy from other records] who was represented by her husband Thomas Utter in 1719; Mary Crowder [possibly wife of John Crowder, see SK TCP 1:161-162] who was married by 1719; Sary Money married by 1719, Rachell Cottrell, Elizabeth Cottrell, Susannah Cottrell, Judeth Cottrell & daughter [Mary who chose Job Babcock as her guardian]. {an under age married daughter still needed a guardian; Marcy was clearly over 21 in 1719.}
