Biography

Elliott Utterback (a twin with sister, Rebekah) was born 10 Apr 1817 in Woodford Co., Kentucky, USA [1] to Nimrod Utterback and Gwinny Perry. [2] He married Mary "Polly" Harrell on 13 Dec 1849 in Indiana. [3]

Research Notes

Both Elliott's and his twin, Rebekah's, obituary state that they were born in Frankfort Co., Kentucky [3] (as opposed to The Utterback Book, which has it as Woodford Co., Kentucky). [1] However, a note in Rebekah's Find A Grave memorial [9] states "There is not & never has been a "Frankfort Co." in KY.", and, indeed, there is not. (However, there is a city of Frankfort in Franklin County.) Therefore, this profile uses the birth location from The Utterback Book.

Elliott Utterback was born in Frankfort County, Kentucky, April 10, 1817. During his youth he moved with his mother to Indiana, where he married Mary Harrell, Dec. 13, 1849. To this union were born seven children, four girls and three boys, two of whom died in infancy. His wife also died Jan. 9, 1873. The other five children, Nancy J. Dawson, William Utterback, Phoebe Duree, Rebecca Street and Samuel Utterback, still survive him, also 17 grandchildren. The deceased was a member of the Christian church for nearly forty years.
He died Feb. 17, 1901, aged 83 years, 10 months and 7 days. He moved to Iowa in the autumn of 1865, and has since resided here. Since the death of his companion he made his home with his eldest child, Nancy Dawson.
Funeral serves were held at the Methodist church at Hayesville, Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Gutherie of Oskaloosa."
