Arthur Utting was born in Cambridgeshire, England.

In 1849, Arthur Utting was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire to Frederic and Sarah Utting, their sixth child.[1]

He sailed to Auckland, New Zealand, aboard the Red Jacket in 1860, living in Dargaville and working as a boatman. He passed away, seemingly unmarried and childless, in 1923 at the age of 74.[2]
