Biography

Betsey Ann was born at Middle Rasen, Lincolnshire, in 1838,[1] the daughter of Benjamin Utting and his wife Frances, née Waddingham, who had been married at South Ferriby, Lincolnshire, by licence, on 26 October 1826.[2][3] Betsey Ann was baptized at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Middle Rasen, on 23 September 1838.[4][5]

She married William Marris.[6]

They emigrated with their daughter to Nelson, New Zealand on the Electra which left Deal on 2 December 1862 and arriving in Nelson on 31 March 1863.[7]

They had their youngest daughter Frances in Nelson.

They also had a son John WIlliam Marris who acted as Betsey's executor.[8]

William died in 1869 and Betsey took over the drapery and grocery business on Waimea Road formerly owned by her husband.[9]

Betsey married William Walker in 1871.[10]

She passed away in 1914.
