William Berrian Vail was born in 1823 in New Brunswick to John Cougle Vail and Charlotte Hannah Arnold. He passed away in Dover, Kent, England in 1904.[1]
William was a businessman and politician. Between 1867 and 1874, he represented Digby County, Nova Scotia in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. In 1874, he was elected as Liberal MP for Digby in the third Canadian Parliament, where he held the position of Minister of Militia and Defence for about three years. He resigned in 1877, but returned to Parliament in 1882 as a member of the Opposition until the1887 when the next general election was held.[2]
