Ichabod came from Long Island to Scotch Plains, New Jersey with his family as a small child. He was a member with his parents of Scotch Plains Baptist Church and served as church Clerk at one time. The minutes of the church mention him in 1764 when he appeared on the list of members; in 1766 when he was chosen to deliver the message to appear to a member whose excommunication was imminent; and in 1771 and 1781. One interesting fact about this church was that there were many members of color who appear to have been equals with white church members.

Whether Ichabod lived out the rest of his life in New Jersey or moved to Virginia with his children is unknown.

Ichabod was the executor of his parent's and sister Elizabeth's estates in 1766 Essex County, New Jersey.

Valentine-1897 and Valentine-1411 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate birth dates do not match though
