Biography

See first --> Ebenezer W. Peirce, "Genealogy of The Valentine Family [of Freetown, Mass.], The Register vol. 20(1866):221+. EWP identifies John's father as it is all involved with the "fortune" inherited by John's descendant Samuel Valentine.

John Valentine's children have descent from a Magna Carta baron:

  • 1. William de Lanvalliei, one of the Sureties for the Magna Charta, governor Colchester Castle, who d. s.p. m. in 1217, had issue by his wife, whom he m. in 1212, a daughter of Alan Basset, of Wycombe, a descendant of Ralph Basset, of Weldon, justiciary of England, who d. 1120 ... to ... 18. Mary Lynde, b, Boston, November 16, 1680, d. March 26, 1 732, m. April 6, 1 702, John Valentine, of Boston, d. 1 742. He was the son of Rev. John Valentine, vicar of Frankfort, Sligo, Ireland, and was a lawyer and " notary and tabellion publick for Massachusetts Bay" in 1706, or crown advocate-general of the province of Massachusetts Bay and New Hampshire and colony of Rhode Island, and was warden of King's Chapel, Boston, and buried there. * [1]

John Valentine died a suicide on 1 February 1724[/25?>: [2] "On ye 1. Mr. Valintine, ye lawyer, hanged himself, att his home, in his upper chamber, with his sash. Mr. Harris, minister, & Mr. Auchmutty, giving oath of his distraction, he had a funerall, and was buryed in ye Church yard on ye 4 day of ye month."
