Isaac, twin to Nathan Hertz Valentine, was born in 1833 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the son of Samuel Valentine and Fanny Mairs.

Isaac enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 24 March 1862 in Charleston, South Carolina. Mustered as a Corporal in Company D, 1st (Charleston) Battalion South Carolina Infantry.

Private Isaac D. Valentine served in the 1st S.C. Regiment, Charleston Battalion, under the command of Gaillard. They were known as Sumter Guards. He was killed in the Battle of Secessionville, the first battle at James Island, South Carolina, at Grimball's Landing defending Charleston at Fort Lamar. He was killed early in the battle, dying at age 29.

He was buried at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery (KKBE), Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA.

I added (Charleston) to the battalion category because that's how it is in other places and I don't know enough about this military category to argue with it.

There's one other person in this category, If Charleston is removed from this one, should the same be done for the 2nd profile in this group.

Removing Charleston will add another Civil War category. Should the category with Charleston in it be deleted?
