Anna Luella Valentine was born 27 July 1873 in Wayne County, Iowa. [1] She married Fred Franklin Curnes on 5 February 1895 in Clarke County, Iowa. [2] Anna Valentine died on 22 October 1951 in Osceola, Clarke, Iowa. She is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Mrs. Anna Curnes returned Thursday to her home at Osceola, having been called here by the death of her mother, Mrs. M.F. Truitt.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Curnes, a resident of Osceola for nearly 60 years, were held last Thursday at Webster Funeral haome, with Rev. Warren Hile officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery. The obituary follows: Anna Luella Valentine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Valentine, was born in Alberta, Canada July 27, 1872. She passed away at a nursing home in Osceola October 22, 1951. She came to Leon when she was five years old, where she continued to live until the time of her marriage to Fred F. Curnes of Oscola in 1893. They were married in Oscola and continued their residence in an near this city. To their union were born nine children all of whom are living with the exception of a son, Alvin, who died September 25, 1948. She is survived by one daughter, Hazel Hill, of Landover Hills, Md., seven sons, John E., Kenosha, Wisc., Harley R., Earlham Iowa, Gerald F., Grand Island, Nebr., Donald R., Lake Villa, Ill., Elvin E., Portland, Oregon, Bernard L., Falls City, Nebr., and Audry W., Suffolk, Va. Two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Pickler of Osceola and Mrs. Ola Butler of Wapata, Wash. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Curnes united with the Osceola Christian church many years ago and had been active in the worship and work of the congregation.

Her death certificate states a birth date of 27 July 1872, as does her tombstone, which would be one month after the reported date of her parent's marriage. Census records through the 1910 United States census give a birth place of Iowa, and does the Curnes- Valentine Marriage Record; later censuses state a birth place of Canada, as does Anna's death certificate.
