Biography

Clement V Vallange OBE was born in 1877 at Edmonton, Middlesex, England.[1]

As a Lieutenant and aide-de-camp to the Acting Governor of Victoria, the bride's father, he married Sylvia Madden on 17th August 1898 in St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.[2][3] Following a lavish reception in Government House, the couple honeymooned in Sydney, New South Wales, before making their home in England where he continued his military career.[4] They had two children, however their son passed away in 1927.

He was gazetted as resigning his commission as a Captain in the 3rd Battalion, The Buff's (East Kent Regiment) on 30th March 1908.[5]

The couple returned to Melbourne, and the scene of their own wedding, for Sylvia's sister, Ruby's "Society Wedding" in March 1910. Their daughter, Hazel, at ten years of age, was a junior bridesmaid.

He served in the British Army during the First World War.[6] He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New year's Honours List 1918 for his work with the Munitions Department.[7]

He passed away early in 1947, at 69 years of age, at Chelsea, London, England.[8] He was survived by his wife and daughter.
