Biography
Arent van Curler, later van Corlaer, was the cousin of Kiliaen van Rensselaer and undertook the management of Rensselaer's patroonship Rensselaerswyck in Nieuw-Nederland, perhaps as early as 1630. He was responsible for the establishment of the farm at the Great Flats, north of Beverwyck, in the 1640's. Van Curler was appointed to several commissions to treat with the neighboring Mohawk Indians in the 1650's.[1] In the early 1660's, he was involved with the purchase and settlement of the new town of Schenectady, West of Beverwick in the Mohawk Valley.[2]
Monsr. Arent van Curler drowned in Lake Champlain in 1667. [3]
