Edward Lodewijk van Halen was the son of Dutch big band clarinetist Jan van Halen. His mother, Eugenia van Halen, nee van Beers, was born in Indonesia and worked as a maid. Eddie was born in Amsterdam, and his family later emigrated to California in 1962 with little to support them, aside from a piano and small change.[1]
Eddie was married to two women. He married Valerie Bertinelli twice, from 1981 to 2007. His second wife was Janie Liszewski, whom he wed in 2009.[1]
Eddie could play nearly any instrument he set his sights on, but could not read music. Despite that lack of skill, he was a classically trained pianist. He was the guitarist for famed rock band Van Halen, which he formed with his brother, Alex in 1974. Van Halen is one of the top 20 best-selling musical performing artists of all time. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Rolling Stone magazine listed Eddie at number 8 in the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.[1]
He died on October 6, 2020 at the age of 65, of throat cancer. [1]

We plan on featuring Eddie as the Example Profile of the Week in the Connection finder on December 2nd. Between now and then is a good time to take a look at the sources and biography to see if there are updates and improvements that need made, especially those that will bring it up to WikiTree Style Guide standards. We know it's short notice, so don't fret too much. Just do what you can. A Team member will check on the profile Tuesday and make changes as necessary.
Thanks! Abby
