Biography

I was born the third child of Lois Maydene Stewart and the first child of John Daniel Little. I was adopted at birth in the state of California by the Van Korts and raised in Napa/Sonoma counties. I grew up with the knowledge of my adoption and remember playing with some of my siblings when I was very young.

At about age 8, my biological mother read an article that I had died and this lead to a disconnect between our two families for 15 years. The article was about my adopted brother's death by gun accident. My bio-father's best friend re-introduced our two families and we became united again.

I got married to Lorretta Masters in Honolulu at a chapel on the base at Pearl Harbor and we had 4 children. Then divorced. Married again to Carolyn Harvey and now we're growing old together. My youngest child Trevor died in a car accident at age 15.

DNA results shows that John Daniel Little was not the son of John Robert Little but actually the son of Clarence E. Williams, so my biological surname should be Williams. Same problem exists for my mother, her DNA father is Loel Frank Morrison, not Russ M Stewart. I went to christian schools for my education and then became a sailor in uncle Sam's canoe club. My trained specialty was RADAR, IFF, LORAN and TACAN. I served at the end of the Vietnam war and was discharged on a medical, got very sick from bacteria in the base swimming pool.

After the Navy, I worked on Radios and CCD's (the early type of solid-state camera's) designing test fixtures and circuit interfaces for taking engineering data. Designed one of the first filter changers for the SPOT satellite, might even still be in orbit, don't know for sure. After doing that for awhile, I got into repairing plasma coating equipment (thin-films) while working at PARC. I became a service engineer and traveled about the country visiting clean-rooms repairing and teaching customers in how to use the equipment. After a bout with cancer I went to work for TiNi Alloy and designed sugar-cube sized mass-flow controllers for use in space-suits, and also built near building sized machinery for treating TiNi materials into a multitude of products (stints, dental-pics, unbreakable eye-glass frames) then I moved to Oregon (from Silicon Valley) and started my own business, Plasma Process Systems (4th state of matter). After doing that for a few years I bought Oregon Online (a WISP) and began serving the area with internet, bringing the world to rural residences in Coos county. I'm still doing that with Beacon Broadband, it's now kind of a hobby. WISP stands for Wireless Internet Service Provider. My hobbies are: Black Powder, Machine Shop, genealogy, computer repair and Linux, not necessarily in that order.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Jan or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • Jan Van Kort: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test, haplogroup J-FT308788, FTDNA kit #B429560
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
  • Jan Van Kort: Family Tree DNA mtDNA Test HVR1 and HVR2, haplogroup HV4, FTDNA kit #B429560
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jan:

Hi Jan,

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far?

I see that you uploaded a GEDCOM. Do you have questions about the GEDCOMpare process?

Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful? Most of us still have some questions after reviewing them.

I'm here to help with issues and questions about how WikiTree works. Click my name to send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page.

Firstly, as a minimum we are asking you to add the location category (of birth or death) of your earliest Little ancestor to the Little Name Study page, if it is not already there. Some guidance on how to do this is given.

Secondly, on each of the relevant person profiles, your own and your earliest Little ancestor as a minimum, you will have to copy and paste the category, e.g. in UK, and in US, at the top of each profile biography section.

Thirdly, consider assisting us with a sub=project. See links on project page for some information on how to do this.

We need your help.

Regards,

Julian Little

Hi Jan,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.

Ludwig :)

PS If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section of your profile page.
