Biography

Jan Gijsbertsen Prior to 1663 lived in the town of Meteren a village near Zaltbommel (Matteren, Bommel) , Gelderland, Holland. He Arrived in New Amsterdam in 1663 with Son Kreijn J Van Mater he was 1673 Magistrate New Utrecht, Long Island and in1683 Deacon of the Dutch Reformed Church, New Utrecht, Long Island
1687 Family lore is that Jans did not take the Oath of Allegence to the British Crown but his son did. May have been reason that they came to Middletown NJ. Some records indicate that Jans did move to NJ with his son in 1710.

Van Mater-13 and Gysbertsen-2 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Add aka Van Mater and Matrn. Thanks!

Jan may be descended from this New Netherland ancestral ine

but there does not appear to be a Gysbert born abt 1600 in the tree who would patronymically be his proper father.
