Biography

During the War of 1812, Joseph Van Norman served as a private in the 2nd York Militia. On June 4, 1812, he was selected at age 24 as a volunteer for service in the 1st Flank Company. [1]

He served from September 25 to October 24, 1812 in Captain John Chisholm’s Flank Company and was present at the Battle of Queenston Heights on October 13th. [2]

He was in the hospital from October 25 to November 24, 1812 while serving in the same company. [3]

He served from November 25 to December 19, 1812 in the same company. [4]

He deserted to the enemy sometime after December 19th. [5]
