Gerrit Jansen Van Oldenburg, alias De Mof, was most likely born in Germany betwen 1600 and 1610, since he was foreman of a farm by 1632. He died probably at New Utrecht in the latter part of 1661. His wife Clara Maathys in a deposition on 1 November 1641 stated that she was 31 years of age. They eloped around 21 Jul 1639. (GER HIS 001) P. 3.
HIS: Gerrit Jansen van Oldenburg was also known as "Gerrit de Mof" or "ye Muffe." In Dutch, "de Mof" is a derogatory term meaning "the German," and "van Oldenburg" indicated that Gerrit Jansen probably came from the county (Grafschaft) of Oldenburg in northwestern Germany, or the city of the same name. (GER HIS 001) P. 1. Gerrit Jansen van Oldenburg is first found in New Netherland in July 1632 when he was foreman of Kiliaen Van Rensselaer's farm on Manhattan Island; he apparently did not continue in that position, and in 1636 requested the grant of another farm from Van Rensselaer. In May 1638 he and Volkert Evertsen leased the farm "walensteyn" from Barent Dircksen. By July 1638 his problems has begun. at that time Teunis Nyssen brought court action against him for failure to deliver a cow. In May 1639 Gerrit and Volkert agreed to buy the farm from Barent Dircksen and then they leased it to Willem Willemsen and Jan Habsen. Phylllis J. Miller, "Garrison-Gerritsen Descendants of Gerrit Jansen Van Oldenburg alias Gerrit De Mof", New York Genealogical and Biographical record, January 1993, Vol. 124, Number 1 (GER HIS 001), P. 3., Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah.
(GER HIS 001) P. 2. According to O'Callaghan's translation, Gerrit was charged with rape 21 July 1629, but Van Laer's translation says the charge was "eloping with a certain widow." Gerrit pleaded that he and Clara Matthys were betrothed. He was fined 20 guilders and had to sign a 100 guilder note to obtain Clara's release from her contract with Jonas Bronck. (GER HIS 001) P. 2.
Issac Abrahamsen brought court action against Gerrit's partner Volkert Evertsen on 27 October 1639 and against "Gerrit de Moff" on 1 December 1639. On 23 Feb 1640 Barent Dircksen stated in court that he was ready to deliver the farm, provided Gerrit furnished security for the purchase money. Gerrit answered that he was drunk when he made the purchase and thus was not held by it. The dispute was referred to referees. Sometime in late February agreed to pay Barent Dircksen 232 guilders. In spite of all this, he lost his farm as his name is not associated with it again. (GER HIS 001) P. 2.
A patent for the farm "Pannebacker's Bouwery" on Manhattan was issued 17 February 1646, which he exchanged with Thomas Hall for "Mallesmit's Berg" on 27 Oct 1649 which Gerrit soon lost. (GER HIS 001) P. 2 and 3.
They possibly had a child, Claertie, no baptism found, would have to be born about 1648 or later. (GER HIS 001) P. 3.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Gerrit Jansen by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Janszen van Oldenburg Garrison-1 and Van Oldenburg-1 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. The alternate death from this match is Died November 1661 in New Utrech, New Holland, New York, United States, Thanks!
Despite the prefix capitalization, I am going to now go ahead and request this Van_Oldenburg-1 as PPP for NNS because the match is an unacceptable conglomeration of names in the LNAB field.
