Biography

Enoch Van Wye was born in Pennsylvania in 1830 to James VanWye and Jane Laird. He married his cousin Lucy Van Wye in 1853 and they had five children.

In his later years Enoch wrote a history of the family which has been the source of much information about the Van Wye line, some not found elsewhere. Before writing his history, Enoch traveled to Ohio and Indiana, visiting relatives and collecting information about the family. The history has been posted on-line: Enoch's history

We also have Enoch to thank for this lovely five-generation family photo, taken during a trip he made to visit family in 1901, near the end of his life.

Enoch died in Missouri in 1903 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Milan.[1]

Photo note: The photo attached to this profile represents five generations of the descendants of Arthur Van Wye, including the oldest one in the photo, Arthur's daughter Catherine. The next generation is represented by Enoch Van Wye, son of Catherine's brother James. The following generation is represented by J.D. Hunter, grandson of James's and Catherine's brother Abram. The final, youngest two generations are J.D.'s daughter Clara and her young son Harold.
