Biography

Johannes Ambeck Van Beeck born ca. 1620, died in before Nov 1658 when his widow re-married. The marriage entry states "Maria Verlet, Wede, Van Johannes Van Beeck." [1]

Johannes Van Beeck married Maria Varlett, apparently(?) at the Stadt House Inn, New Amsterdam, New Netherland on19th February 1654. [2] The marriage was declared unlawful and void by the Director-General and Council of New Netherland on 14 September 1654, on the grounds that the officiant was not authorized to perform marriages and the couple had not published banns.[3] Apparently the couple arranged to legalize their marriage before May 1655, when they baptized their daughter Judith in the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam.
