Biography

James was born about 1795 in Fermanagh County, Ireland. James Vance emigrated to the United States sometime before 1845. From 1845 to 1850, he lived in Newton, Mississippi. [1] [2] On April 1, 1856, James purchased forty and 14/100's acres of land in "the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter, of section seven in Township eight, north of range eleven, east, in the district of lands subject to sale in Columbus, Mississippi. [3] He passed away in 1879. He is buried in Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Union, Mississippi.[4]
