Biography
Chapman was born about 1840. In the 1850 US Census he is in the home of Adam and Nancy Vance in Monroe County and listed as Augustus C. Vance. His marriage record lists his parents names as Adam and Nancy and that he was born in Monroe County. Later in life he only uses his middle name as his name, Chapman.
