Frederick VANCE was born in 1889 in Maffra, Colony of Victoria[1]. His parents were James VANCE and Matilda COLWELL.
25 November 1915, Frederick enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces, Service number: 4332[2]. He was assigned to the 23/5 Battalion, saw service in Belgium and France, was wounded in action in France on 25 July 1916 and wounded accidently on 16 March 1917, attained the rank of Lance Corporal, returned to Australia and was discharged on 11 March 1918.
He passed away on 4 May 1935 in Sale, Victoria, Australia[3] and was buried at the Maffra Cemetery[4].
VANCE— On the 4th May, at St. Helen's Private Hospital, Sale. Frederick, youngest son of the late James and of Mrs. Vance, "Willow Vale," Maffra, and loving brother of John (Queensland), Robert, William, Thomas, May, Jim, Margaret (Mrs. Beech) and Janie (Mrs. Hall), aged 45 years.
