Biography

Sherman Vance was born in 1865 in Illinois to parents James T Vance (born in Kentucky) and Emily (born in Tennessee). ^[1]

His brothers and sisters, are all born in Illinois: ^[1]

By 1870 the family is farming at Buck Prairie, Lawrence, Missouri. ^[1]

Sherman married Lizzie A Brown in Billings, Missouri on Dec 1st 1888. Alternate spelling is "Bronne". ^[2] Their two children are Walter Vance (born 1889) and Myrtle May Vance (born 1892). Lizzie died at the end of the year 1892. ^[3]

Sherman married a second time in 1894, to Eva I. Kent (born in Nevada). The marriage took place in Labette County, Kansas on 28 March. ^[4] They lived and farmed in Oswego Township, Kansas. The 1900 Census cites Sherman Vance, farmer, born in Illinois in Oct 1865, Eva Vance, born in Nevada in 1873, Walter Vance, born in 1889 in Missouri and Myrtle Vance, born in 1892 in Missouri. ^[5]

Sherman picked up and moved with his family to Idaho sometime before 1910 and continued farming. ^[6] Daughter Myrtle married in 1912 then moved to California and Oregon. Son Walter also seems to have married around this time.

By 1920 Sherman and Eva are living in the city of Boise, Idaho; he is employed at the Post Office as janitor. ^[7]

In 1930 Sherman, age 64, is cited as merchant at "general store" in Boise. His son Walter is clerk at the store. Eva is 58 years old. ^[8]

Sherman is widowed for second time in 1931. ^[9]

The 1940 Census shows that Sherman has remarried; his wife's name is Ada, she is 13 years younger, born about 1878. ^[10]

Sherman passed away in 1950, in Idaho and was buried next to his second wife Eva at Morris Hill Cemetery, Boise, Ada, Idaho. ^{[11] [12]}
